About

A development company with an IT company behind it

AppTech Dev is the software development arm of AppTech, an IT infrastructure and security company established in 2002 in Johannesburg. We build custom software for businesses of any size, in South Africa and abroad.

Working inside an IT company changes what gets built

We see what breaks at three in the morning, which systems refuse to talk to each other, and how much of a working week disappears into copying information from one screen to another. The software we write is aimed at exactly that.

Who you will be working with

Led by the founder, built by a team

Robert Youngworth, founder of AppTech Dev
Robert Youngworth — founder, and the person who sets the technical direction of every project

Robert has been taking technology apart since childhood, worked in the industry for years before founding AppTech in 2002, and holds a BCom in Information Systems from UNISA.

He leads the team that designs and builds the software, including the four systems AppTech runs its own operations on, and stays involved in every project from scoping to handover. The work is done alongside the infrastructure and security engineers at AppTech, so no project depends on one person.

  • You talk to the people building your software, not an account manager.
  • Security decisions are made by people who run sign-in, hosting and backups for a living.
  • The work sits inside a company trading since 2002, not a one-person contract.

Where we work

Based in Johannesburg, working well beyond it

Work is done remotely, and South African hours overlap the working day in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and much of Asia. Being in one time zone has never been the thing that decides whether a project works.

Tell us about the process that wastes the most time

One call is usually enough to know whether it is worth building, and how we would approach it.

  • We read your enquiry and reply within one working day.
  • If an off-the-shelf product would do the job better, we will say so.
  • No sales sequence and no automated follow-ups.
